This position is responsible for implementing methodologies that would maximize operating efficiency and effectiveness as well as facilitate tax compliance. The Tax Analyst will assist in the formulation of tax policies and objectives by keeping abreast of industry practices and developments. Evaluating and implementing cost savings strategies for tax filing, compliance and reporting.

Major Responsibilities: 

  • Identify, research and implement new technical interpretation of tax laws, rules and regulations and operating processes.
  • Reconcile tax processing system to ensure accuracy of system operations and data reliability. 
  • Oversee and coordinate internal and external audits.  
  • Coordinate and lead all tax related projects.  Assist in the execution of overall NTU (National Taxation Unit) business plan.
  • Formulate tax, business and system requirements to integrate new business transactions.
  • Interact with various business areas to gather information related to new and complex business transactions, initiatives and changes in order to implement new tax filing and reporting requirements. 
  • The position requires redesigning, restructuring, modifying or simplifying techniques, services or procedures that would improve tax services.
  • Stay informed of changing system architecture that may impact operating environment of the National Taxation unit.
  • Keeping Team Leader apprised of any outstanding issues/escalations; providing feedback and department status.
  • Providing level of service that is based on a full understanding of client’s service arrangements
  • Maintaining effective communication between all areas in the department to ensure functional transparency within business units. 

Skills and Experience:  

  • Minimum of 3-6 years of progressive experience in a financial institution, corporate trust, stock transfers or securities environment.
  • Background in income trust and mutual fund industry.
  • Incumbent must have recent expert knowledge of tax compliance in income taxation and fiduciary tax returns.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting or finance.
  • CGA, CA,CMA, CPA (Canadian Payroll Association) designation definitely an asset.
  • Broad knowledge of the Canadian Securities Industry, preferably from a Corporate Trust or Stock Transfer perspective.
  • Advanced knowledge of income taxation and related regulatory and legislative requirements.
  • Analytical skills .
  • Ability to work independently and on projects as assigned.
  • Well-organized and highly motivated team player and able to meet tight deadlines.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven organizational skills.
  • Advanced computer knowledge and skills in the use of office tools such as Microsoft Excel, Word, Access, Project, and Visio. 
  • Flexibility to work once a week 10:30am-7pm
