Job Summary:
The Senior Mortgage Underwriter will be responsible for reviewing and reconciling loan files to guidelines, overlays and industry standards resulting in a credit decision.  The Senior Mortgage Underwriter will condition the file for those items needed to complete a salable loan and will clear those conditions as they are submitted.  The Senior Mortgage Underwriter may also participate in mentoring junior staff members.
 
Position Responsibilities & Essential Functions:
  • Thorough review and analysis of loan file to determine deficiencies and/or issues.
  • Complete loan disposition to indicate decision and stipulations/conditions needed to ensure accurate and complete file.
  • Complete review of resubmission of stipulations.
  • Issue final underwriting decision.
  • Complete accurate input and analysis of data within the client’s Loan Origination System.
  • Other duties or tasks as assigned by management.

Skills:
Required:
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proactive and effective customer relations skills
  • Comprehensive understanding of FNMA/FHLMC underwriting guidelines
  • Appraisal review experience
  • Strong knowledge of AUS systems (DU/LP)
  • Experience with refinance and purchase files
 
Education:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
 
Experience:
Preferred:
  • Strong level knowledge of complex income scenario analysis.
  • Experience in Manual Underwriting.
  • Experience in evaluating underwriting risk
  • 5 years current experience in Conventional underwriting 
 
 Travel Required:
 
It is expected that this position may include travel up to 10% of the time.  This is subject to change based on many factors, including business needs.
 
Language Ability:
Ability to read/analyze/interpret business periodicals/ journals/technical procedures/gov. regulations; write reports/business correspondence/procedure manuals; effectively present information/respond to questions from managers/clients/customers/public.
Mathematical Ability:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
