Job Summary:

The Head of Strategic Cost Management will be responsible for overseeing our facilities, property management, procurement and vendor management teams based largely in Jersey City, Louisville, Denver and Toronto. They will also act as the senior interface with the business as it pertains to the allocation of desk space within our facilities. The primary focus of the role is to ensure Computershare obtains as much value for money as possible from our third party spend – this will include things like minimizing the number of suppliers, managing our space as efficiently as possible, identifying areas for savings across the businesses (eg. Eliminating or reducing areas of third party spend) and managing the team and resources available in an efficient manner. Driving strategy for and managing 21 facilities (17 in the US, 4 in Canada) as well as supporting growth and changes through inorganic and organic growth.

  • Experience in planning and delivering integrated and measurable cost reduction strategies  balanced with view on how it will impact the business(es)
  • Experience in workforce management as it relates to facilities and strategic facility management
  • Demonstrable track record of driving out cost in an operational business
  • Comprehensive leadership, coaching and people management skills
  • Excellent presentation, interpersonal and communication skills - confident, articulate and numerate
  • Excel in external third-party management, including vendors, consultants, landlords and partners
  • Innovative, proactive, pragmatic and commercially minded – able to identify new areas for savings and deliver them 
  • Ability to work with, influence, challenge and negotiate with stakeholders at all levels – both internal and external to the business
  • Strong financial analyst with a good understanding of balance sheet and profit and loss statements

Key Responsibilities

  • Planning and budgeting for the third party spend and property management strategies across Computershare NA business
  • Helping the Computershare NA businesses grow in line with its annual budget targets
  • Managing all aspects of third party spend and property management plan delivery
  • Managing the on-going budget to agreed levels
  • Managing, developing and encouraging team members
  • Complying with all relevant legal and regulatory guidelines as appropriate
  • Identifying, mitigating and managing risk associated with all relevant activities
  • Lead and focus team efforts in data gathering and analysis, data interpretation, process design, and formulating conclusions and recommendations
  • Other duties or tasks as assigned by management.

Essential Skills, Experience and Competencies

  • Extensive experience managing a team, including talent development
  • Proven track record of cost management and reduction across a range of areas and functions
  • Solid understanding of real estate management
  • Strong financial analysis and cost reduction experience
  • Demonstrable track record of influencing senior stakeholders of a course of strategy and obtaining buy-in for the proposal
  • Strong command of the English language with excellent writing skills
  • Experience working as a member of a management team, dealing with and delivering for senior members of a business
  • High level of numeracy and general business experience
  • Demonstrated ability to actively manage and deliver on expectations around project activities, timelines, deliverables and outcomes
  • A true team player who is collaborative and flexible and able to work effectively with staff at all levels
  • Possesses a high degree of integrity and strong moral and ethical standards. A straight shooter who is honest and upfront
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, and a strong executive presence
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook)
  • Current permanent US work authorization require

Education:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED)


Travel Required:

It is expected that this position may include travel up to 25% of the time. This is subject to change based on many factors, including business needs.

Ability to read/analyze/interpret journals/financial reports/legal documents; respond to inquiries/complaints from customers/reg. agencies/ community; write speeches/articles for publication; present info to top mgmt/public groups/ boards of directors.
