Description of Area of Business

Computershare Communication Services (CCS) provides end to end communication solutions and services to Computershare Group Companies and through direct relationships to external clients. 

Externally CCS provides transactional communication solutions including the provision of advice notes, statements, cheque payments, payment advices, and share trade confirmations.  Internally CCS provides a full range of shareholder and employee plan holder communications in support of core Computershare Business Units with the addition to specialised communications supporting specific business unit requirements.  CCS has the capability to provide all communications in either electronic or physical mail pack form. 

As well as managing outgoing communications CCS possess the capability to store, archive and retrieve documents and provide accessibility of these documents to consumers, customer service personnel and other trusted intermediaries as permissions allow.  The business has the capability to provide inbound document processing utilising Computershare’s existing inbound scanning, classifying and routing systems to capture information and process it in line with client business rules.

Globally CCS has operations in five countries (Australia, Canada, Germany, UK and USA) across 11 operational locations

 

 

Main Purpose of the Role


Working within the CCS Composition Team, the Developer is responsible for writing/modifying programs to meet client business objectives and requirements for both electronic and paper based communication. The programs written are used to process client supplied data and produce personalised documents/communications to be delivered with the appropriate delivery channel (paper, SMS, e-mail. e-delivery, etc).

The Developer is expected to contribute to complex programming tasks (creation/modification of UK libraries, complex customer requirements, Encompass, etc), provide technical leadership and architect solutions to meet our client’s expectations ensuring our ISO9001/ISO27001 procedures and internal standards are followed.

The Developer will also be responsible for coaching and supporting junior programmers and will get involved in planning and managing the workload for the team.

Person Specification

The ideal candidate will have a strong technological background including a degree linked to information technology (see essential criteria for more information) and 5 years in a development position. He/she will be able to demonstrate strong communication skills, the ability to successfully liaise with internal and external customers and show a committed approach to high quality work and relationships.

Key Responsibilities


•         Programming: Writing new/amending existing programs in Perl utilising internally developed libraries and tools to process client data and produce personalised documents (paper or electronic) ensuring standards, processes and expectations are meet.


•         Ensure that 100% of the working time is recorded and spent productively on billable work or on approved internal projects


•         Provide technical lead and support to programming during their day to day activities


•         Work closely with the Programming team leader to:

o    Help define processes and best practice

o    Provide code review support


•         Implement and supervise (when applicable) improvements to the UK libraries and any other complex programming task in coordination with the programming team leader


•         Help the programming team design and supervise the creation of solutions that must meet Client’s requirements and are scalable, supportable, maintainable and meet our standards


•         Provide effective “second-line” support for systems and libraries developed and maintained by the Composition team


•         Support the monitoring and managing the daily/weekly schedule to meet business expectations. Ensure the work is correctly executed on time according to job brief. Act as the main contact for urgent jobs/requests


•         Liaise with Global development team to help shape libraries and processes to ensure they take into consideration the UK needs and requirements


•         Liaise with the UK technology team (CTS) and provide feedback and input to ensure our infrastructure and the services provided are fit for purpose


•         Maintaining confidentiality, availability and integrity of client proprietary and internally generated data/resources which falls under the custody of the role (we are ISO 27001 Information Security Management accredited)


•         Technical document/report writing.


•         Contribute in creating a positive and friendly environment in the department


•         Provide and promote a service delivery culture towards our clients (Client Services, Production, etc), showing a 'can do' attitude. When required engage and proactively advise our clients in order to deliver a better service

Essential Skills, Experience and Competencies


•         Degree in Information Technology, Information Systems, Computer Science and/or related discipline.


•         Strong understanding of software engineering and programming principals


•         5 years minimum experience in a commercial programming environment


•         Strong analytical skills and the ability to identify, suggest and implement changes to improve workflow efficiency


•         Excellent written and verbal communication skills in conjunction with strong presentation abilities.


•         Strong quality attitude and attention to detail


•         Good organisational skills


•         Proactive, positive, enthusiastic with can do attitude.  Results orientated. Can progress concurrently several projects/tasks


•         Ability to develop positive working relationships with colleagues and clients


•         Strong leadership qualities to influence team members to achieve business goals within timelines

 

Desirable Skills, Experience and Competencies


•         Strong understanding of Perl and/or experience of one or more object oriented programming languages like C or Java, etc


•         Good understanding of web and database technologies (SQL, XML, XSLT, HTML and Web Services)


•         Team leading experience.


•         Project management or scrum master experience


•         Previous knowledge of printing industry
