Description of Area of Business
Computershare Technology Services (CTS) provides global technology and infrastructure services for existing Computershare proprietary software together with a full range of development services for new products.
CTS Infrastructure EMEA provides architecture, implementation and support for all the systems and networks that our products and services run on in the EMEA region.  We currently have approximately 45 IT staff in the Infrastructure Group mostly located in the Bristol location and supporting 3500 users among 25 office locations. 
CTS Globally have approximately 1000 employees, with approximately half of them in Oceania and the other half split between the Americas and EMEA regions.  Each region is split into 3 major divisions; Infrastructure Services, Business Services and Development Services.
Each region is responsible for supporting the technology within its region, while working closely with the other regions to ensure global consistency among technology standards and implementations.  Each region has one main data centre split between two physical sites as well as several smaller machine rooms at remote locations.  
Working within the Service Operations department, the team is responsible for providing technical support of the database technologies and systems across our European and South African operations (EMEA region).  Keeping our data safe, secure and performing at optimal levels using different technologies including SQL Server 2016 and Oracle 11g

Person Specification
Looking for an enthusiastic and experienced technical individual, who has a positive outlook and strong desire for problem solving. The ideal candidate will have 2-3 years’ experience as a SQL DBA (or equivalent role) and an understanding of the level of security associated working within a financial services company.  Working within a large multisite organisation, there will be a small element of travel required, primarily to assist with team building and project commitments.

Key Responsibilities
The activities noted below provide a non-exhaustive list of the responsibilities held by the Database Administrator role. The successful candidate will be expected to assume additional responsibilities, as business needs dictate.
  • Owning and resolving database related incidents and requests.
  • Fulfilling requests and resolving incidents within agreed SLAs.
  • Reviewing service related reports and notifications.
    • e.g.: database backups, maintenance, monitoring.
  • Responding to database related alerts / escalations.
  • Engineering solutions to recurring problems.
  • Ensure Database Systems are highly available and comply with global and regional standards.
  • Provide project support, liaising with key stakeholders to ensure a high level of service.
  • Identify and work with CTS and business teams to implement process improvement.
  • Any other reasonable activity including supporting and assisting with system upgrades.
The team operate an on-call rota, which the successful candidate will join.
Essential Skills, Experience and Competencies
  • Experience with Database Administration for MSSQL Server.
  • Experience in troubleshooting and resolving database problems.
  • Experience with backups, restores and recovery models.
  • Experience in Performance Tuning and Optimization, using native monitoring and troubleshooting tools.
  • Knowledge of High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) options for MSSQL Server.
  • Experience in implementing operational automation.
  • Knowledge of indexes, index management, and statistics.
  • Experience working with Windows server, including Active Directory and proper disk configurations.
  • Good communication and documentation skills.

  • Experience of SQL Server Always On
  • Virtualisation of Database technologies on VMWare or Hyper-V.
  • PowerShell automation and scripting
  • Spotlight monitoring
  • SQL Azure security and implementation
  • SQL 2016 deployment and administration

  • Understanding of ITIL v3 processes and functions
