Commercial Finance Director, Business Services

 

Location – North America (preference Toronto, Los Angeles, San Rafael)

 

Business & Position purpose

Computershare Business Services (CBS) is a leading provider of Corporate Trust, Claims Administration, Restructuring and Mass Tort administration. With over $1.8 trillion of debt under administration, collective experience processing billions of dollars in high volume claims across multiple jurisdictions and with specialized knowledge and expertise in legal administrative servicing CBS is a leader in its existing verticals and is poised for global expansion. 

CBS combines local expertise with global practices with key operational centers in Canada, USA and emerging operations in Europe and Hong Kong.

Computershare’s Global Finance function and structure will support the new global business lines model. As such, there will be a Commercial Finance Director reporting to the Group CFO for each global business unit.  Each Commercial Finance Director will be the global business lines finance partner focused on strategic and business analysis, decision support and financial planning (budgets, forecasts and multi-year strategy).

This position will be an integral part of the global finance leadership team (see group structure in the accompanying Finance Group Structure Appendix) and will report to Computershare’s Group Chief Financial Officer and will directly partner with the Chief Executive Officer of CBS to provide leading finance and commercial support

Role Accountability

Budget Control – The role will manage the global budget for CBS, though direct accountability sits with CBS CEO

Number of Direct Reports- to be confirmed

Relationships – External Stakeholders: Auditors, Tax Advisors and other statutory bodies. Internal Stakeholders: CBS Global Management team and Global Finance team

Roles & Responsibilities

The position will be an integral member of the global CBS management team and key in CBS’ business strategy and commercial decision making. Your senior financial leadership experience will be required to steer and support business priorities and ensure the success of CBS and ultimately Computershare.

This role will:
  • lead the organization's financial and business analysis and business planning requirements and assume ownership of all budgeting, forecasting, multi- year strategic planning, profitability and margin analysis; 
  • be required to build and lead a global team of first-rate commercial finance professionals by developing talent, engaging staff and demonstrating inclusive leadership;
  • play an active role in the global business leadership providing finance and commercial input and support. You will be required to deliver valuable commercial insights across the businesses product lines, regions and customer channels
  • advise on financial implications of management decisions as well as establish the financial soundness of proposed business ventures and acquisitions;
  • lead the completion of high quality business cases / financial modelling for major business initiatives (e.g. existing and new product concepts) as well as financial commitments (e.g. leases or major capex spend);
  • lead the annual planning process. This includes leading the annual budget and forecasting process as well as ensuring the stakeholder engagement into the planning process and to meet the wider group deadlines;
  • ensure the accurate and timely production of financial reports, analysis and forecasts for the CBS organization. This is to provide a clear insight into the financial condition of the business to help drive the financial discipline and ongoing accountability required to improve operating and financial performance;
  • interact with our external auditors, as required, to help ensure they are satisfied with all accounting, reporting, compliance and control practices in the business 

Skills, Experience & Competencies

Required Experience
  • Appropriate senior finance leadership experience (ie. at least 10 years’ experience) managing a finance function (including business planning, forecasting and business case development), involvement in corporate development activity, worked across multiple business divisions and regions

  • Experience leading, motivating and developing finance teams that contribute as a true business partner

  • Communicate in a persuasive and engaging manner with an ability to influence business outcomes
  • Demonstrate strong time management, prioritization and organizational skills
  • Focus on quality decision making, follow through, closure and completion of all tasks and projects
  • Strong business acumen and commercial skills with a proven track record
  • Exercise good judgment and demonstrate an ability to actively manage risks.
Education
  • University degree in Finance, Accounting or Business preferred

  • CPA/CA/CMA designation preferred
