Computershare Technology Services - Global Planning and Delivery (CTS-GP&D) group manage the lifecycle of infrastructure across three regions including planning, design, strategy, roadmap development, project delivery and AU operations.

About the role:

We have an exciting opportunity for a SQL Server Production Database Administrator SME role to join our tight-knit Global Planning and Delivery Team.

Reporting to the Production DBA Team Lead, the Production DBA Subject Matter Expert will use their expert SQL Server knowledge to improve the delivery of data services, support completed applications, assure availability, and above all optimise database efficiency and usability. The SME will also be responsible for ensuring technical excellence and expertise as well as providing mentorship and cross-training to other team members.

Responsibilities include (but not limited to):

  • Seek ways of optimising the extensive SQL Server licence investment through novel application of technology and deep understanding of database best practices.
  • Ensure production environment is operating within all OLAs and SLAs
  • Build database\\data environments according to standard build process and best practice for assigned projects and software \\ hardware refreshes.   
  • Monitor and maintain optimal server health allowing maximum throughput and minimal resource contention.
  • Monitor all database related jobs, alerts and event logs.
  • Manage security, ensure the security policy is followed; contribute to defining database environment security model.
  • Document, execute and verify database backup procedures on a periodic basis.

To be successful in this role you must have the following:

  • Previous experience working as a Production DBA
  • Detailed technical knowledge of SQL Server and T-SQL, with practical experience optimising databases running on 2008R2/2012/2014/2016 and Azure
  • Experience with change management systems (preferably TFS/HP Service Manager/Service Now)
  • Proven ability to influence stakeholders and demonstrate technical leadership
  • Strong investigation and problem-solving capabilities
  • The ability to be adaptable and flexible and to balance working autonomously within a strong team culture
  • The ability to stay abreast of the latest developments with Database Server and DBA techniques
  • Strong time management and documentation skills

Desirable skills/experiences:

  • Exposure to other data platforms and Cloud technologies
  • Experience working in a high security environment
  • Understanding of regulations and legislation pertaining to data privacy in the financial services industry
